Pencils

Who Uses Promotional Pencils?

Branded pencils work across dozens of industries and occasions. Trade businesses hand out carpenter's pencils on job sites, real estate agents include sharpened timber pencils in welcome packs, and schools order coloured pencil sets for student kits and fundraisers. Architects and engineers favour mechanical pencils for precision work, while event organisers bundle mini pencils into conference bags. Retail stores add branded pencils to point-of-sale displays, and community groups use them as affordable giveaways at fairs and markets. Because pencils are lightweight and genuinely useful, they travel easily and stay in pockets, toolboxes and desk drawers for months, delivering repeated brand exposure without the cost of digital advertising.

How to Choose the Right Promotional Pencil

Start with your audience and how they will use the pencil. Carpenter's pencils suit trades and construction because the flat profile resists rolling and the thick lead marks timber and concrete. Standard HB timber pencils work for offices, schools and general giveaways. If you want a reusable option, mechanical pencils appeal to professionals who value convenience and a consistent line. Coloured pencil packs and sets in tins make sense for creative campaigns, children's promotions or art suppliers.

Consider whether you need the pencils sharpened or unsharpened. Sharpened pencils are ready to use straight away, which suits events and quick handouts. Unsharpened versions often allow a larger print area along the barrel. Think about pack size too: single pencils keep costs low for mass distribution, while boxed sets or tins create a premium feel and higher perceived value. If sustainability matters to your brand, look for recycled or alternative materials. Styles and Materials Available

Good Things stocks promotional pencils in timber, recycled newspaper, metal and composite materials. Traditional timber pencils come sharpened or unsharpened, in natural wood or painted finishes, and some include attached erasers. Carpenter's pencils are available in standard and mini sizes, ideal for the building and trades sector. Mechanical pencils feature smooth twist or click mechanisms and metal or plastic barrels for a modern look.

Coloured pencils are offered as individual items or in multi-piece sets, sometimes packaged in tins or tubes for added presentation. You will also find combination sets that pair pencils with other stationery items, and short or mini pencils designed for compact storage or children's hands. Material choice affects both the branding surface and the environmental story you tell, so match the style to your campaign message and the way your audience will actually use the product.

Branding and Print Methods for Pencils

Pencils offer a clean, flat surface that suits several decoration techniques. Pad printing is the most common method, delivering crisp one-colour or multi-colour logos on the barrel. For full-colour artwork or photographic images, digital print and heat transfer work well on certain finishes. Laser engraving creates a subtle, permanent mark by removing the surface layer to reveal the timber beneath, popular for premium timber and metal pencils. Screen printing suits larger runs where you want bold, opaque colour.

Good Things provides free artwork service and free digital mockups on every order, including logo vectorisation and redraws if your file needs it. The team will recommend the best print method based on your design, the pencil material and your quantity. Because pencils are small, keep your logo simple and legible at reduced size. Turnaround is calculated from artwork approval and payment, and does not include freight time.
